Today year 2 dived into art history and discovered the lives and work of two significant artists who contributed to changing the story of art across the centuries and decades. The children were full of admiration and empathy for Vincent Van Gogh and Augusta Savage both of whom struggled for recognition and contentment in their life times. Year 2 offered astute insights into these artists lives after just a short time spent learning about them. We then fulfilled a wish of Augusta Savage’s which forms part of her legacy- that young people be given the time and materials to sculpt with their hands. The children were so absorbed by creating their own sculptures like those they had seen created by Savage. Well done year 2!
