Years 5 and 6 began to plan and construct their final DT projects this week. The bridges must be able to hold 500g of weight at any point and must be able to stand unsupported – no mean feat when taken into account that they have to be made out of lolly sticks, dowel rods, card and straws!
Using their knowledge of triangulation, reinforcement and tension, UKS2 designed a range of truss bridges, suspension bridges and beam bridges to fit the given specifications. We used PVA to build our roads out of lolly sticks and then we used glue guns to add supporting structures. Construction is planned for the next two weeks so that our engineers have time to build bridges that are rigid and stable.
