Years 3&4 used their newfound knowledge of rigid, stable structures and different types of joints to do some excellent construction work this afternoon.
They worked as a team to design a structure then divided up the roles of planner/architect, materials supplier and builder to create a freestanding, stable structure.
They discussed the 2D shapes they would need to start with and the 3D shapes that these would go on to form. Most groups also remembered the need to measure carefully before cutting in order to make sides the same length and to avoid wasting materials.
They tested what they felt would be the strongest or most appropriate joints and showed real creativity, ingenuity and teamwork throughout.
