This week, we learned the story of Prince Siddhartha, and the origins of Buddhism.
We found out how he left the sheltered environment of his palace compound and was bewildered and distressed by the suffering he saw in the outside world. His decision to reflect upon these sufferings led to the four Noble Truths and became the foundation of the eightfold path, the pathway by which Buddhists believe they can end suffering.
We then reflected upon his decisions and gave our own thoughts as to which of the sights he saw were the most significant, and why.
The children’s responses were beautifully thoughtful.
