We took a final look at our mummified tomatoes today and discussed how they had changed over the past few weeks.
Those preserved in our natron mixture had become significantly smaller and lighter as the liquid in them had been drawn out by the natron. There was little, if any odour and the skins were now shrivelled.
The tomato in Tupperware was increasingly liquid as it continued to decompose. We noticed that it was starting to collapse as it was becoming less solid and more liquid, there was a lot more mould and a distinctly unpleasant smell!
