Year 2 history: Life in 17th Century London- the plague and the fire.

Today we looked at another aspect of life in 17th century London- the Great Plague of 1665 which the people of the city suffered in the year before the fire. Year 2 were brilliant at recalling what they had learned about life in the 1600s last week and applying it to the context of the plague. They were quick to draw the conclusion that life without sanitation, modern medicine, electricity or fast communication meant that both diseases such as the plague and fires – such as the fire of London were quick to spread and hard to stop.

In the second half of the lesson the children acted out scenes of how the fire started and how people tried to stop it spreading.
