Year 2 RE: Giving and receiving gifts 🎁

Year 2 agree that the best gifts are often not those that money can buy (but we do love toys too).

Today year 2 started a new RE topic – gifts, giving and story of Jesus’ birth which we will be deepening our understanding of until Christmas. Today year 2 discussed why we give and receive gifts, who we give them to and how it makes us feel. We read a story called Handa’s Surprise where a little girl carries a basket of fruit to her friend in a nearby village. The children loved the story and made insightful comments relating to the themes in the book.

Year 2 also offered particularly thoughtful contributions to our discussions about why we give and receive gifts. Some comments included: “to show we love and care”, “it can make us feel emotional when we give gifts and see how much people love them” and lastly “my favourite gift is a hug”. We ended the lesson by acting out how giving and receiving makes us feel.
