We’ve been learning about nutrition and the different food groups, and this week, years 3 & 4 put their new-found knowledge to work as they designed balanced meals.
We talked about how a balanced diet DOES include the odd treat, but that we need to keep a balance and can look at the ‘traffic light system’ of food labels to help us do this.
We then went on to come up with a menu for one day, covering breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks. Children had to identify which food groups their choices came from and ensure that over the course of the day, the appropriate proportions of each were eaten.
The children made different choices based on whether it was a weekday or the weekend and some clearly had a special occasion in mind!
