Years 3 & 4 have had a lot of fizzy fun making bath bombs this week. From a DT perspective, we talked about designing a product which is fit for purpose and appealing to a consumer. We then discussed the criteria we would need to fulfil in order to make a ‘good’ bath bomb.
We used our knowledge of the states of matter to predict how our bath bombs would change state when put in the bath and talked about the chemical reactions that take place in order for them to fizz and dissolve. The children had to follow the instructions to the letter in order to ensure that their bath bombs didn’t begin to effervesce (fizz) too early and you will see from the pictures below what happens when your teacher adds a drop too much water 😳
The next day we evaluated our bath bombs, having investigated existing products and considered the criteria that we would need to meet, namely:
Does it effervesce?
Does it dissolve?
The children did an excellent job and we hope you enjoyed using the bath bombs at home.
