We finished off our learning about Sikhism with one of the most joyful lessons ever!
We have been thinking about how important sharing is in Sikhism and focused on one of the most visible aspects of this, the Langar. The Langar is the communal kitchen and dining room in a Gurdwara (the Sikh place of worship). Anyone and everyone is welcome to come and enjoy a meal in the Langar, no matter what their faith or background may be. All the food is vegetarian in order that as many people as possible are able to enjoy it.
As we would be asked to do in a Gurdwara, we all removed our shoes and sat on the floor together before enjoying chickpea tikka masala, lentil korma, naan bread, naan chips, rice and salad. I was so proud to see so many children trying a taste of something new and I think we have a few converts to curry.
The session finished with an impromptu Bhangra dance party, which really took off when Miss Higgitt popped in to find out what the delicious smell was!
