Deptford Creek adventure

As part of their rivers study, Year 5 visited Creekside education centre. We learned all about the different features of a river and looked at different maps and time lapse video to get more of an understanding of how our local rivers connect and change with the tide.

We did some labelled observational sketches of the creek and handled a variety of artefacts found in the river.

After lunch, we waded into the river (though not far due to the fast flow from yesterday’s rain!) We found lots of artefacts because the river had been churned up, including the bottle stopper below.

We also used nets to find animal life in river, including crabs, shrimps and water hog lice.

So much learning fun packed into one day!
