A letter from the Tate

As you may know, we are taking part in a once-in-a-lifetime art project with the artist and Oscar-winning Director, Steve McQueen, which you can read about here – www.tateyear3project.org.uk

We had our photograph taken this week and had a workshop with Claire, our photographer. Afterwards, some of the children had more questions about the project or about art in general so we emailed the Tate gallery. It was a delightful surprise for me to receive a letter, less than an hour later, thanking us for our brilliant questions and answering them! Here are Year 3 looking very proud, I bet not many primary schools receive letters from one of the most famous galleries in the world!

If you have a chance at the weekend or in the holidays, please, please take your children to an art gallery. Travel into London is free with a 5-11 Zip Oystercard and galleries such as the Tate Modern, which is walking distance from London Bridge, and the National Gallery and National Portrait Gallery, which are walking distance from Charing Cross, are not only free, but run loads of free family activities throughout the year. Stay for half an hour or stay for a day but please do go and give your children the opportunity to experience something new – there is so much there, it would take years to see it all!
