International Women’s Day in Year 3

In order to celebrate International Women’s Day, we learned about the inspirational civil rights activist Rosa Parks. We watched a short film about her life and the momentous day in December 1955 when she refused to give up her seat on a segregated bus.

We thought about three key questions: how did Rosa feel when she was told to move, why did Rosa refuse to give up her seat and why were her actions so important?

We then re-enacted this extraordinary event and finished by learning some key terms about the civil rights movement thanks to Horrible Histories and their brilliant song about this phenomenal and inspiring woman.
